North Bay Triathlon 2015

My first triathlon of the season was a small one in North Bay, Ontario. I had been wanting to do this race since last year. I figured it would be a good warm up for Ironman Muskoka. It's a relatively short race 1000m swim, 31km bike and 8.4km run. The reason I wanted to do this race is because I was born in North Bay and it's where I learned how to swim. I learned how to swim in Four Mile Lake when I was 5 years old. My father held on to me and walked out until the water was deeper then my height and then threw me out.

Not my best week

Started off the week with some Bladder/bowel issues. Fibroids feel like they're getting bigger. The bowels are bothering during my run so this isn't good. I hope it's just because of where my monthly cycle is. I've noticed just before my period that is when it is the worst.

A former classmate of mine committed suicide last weekend. This is the 2nd one in a matter of 20months. My thoughts are with his family.

Week #? of Ironman Training

I've lost count, but I've almost completed 5 months of Ironman training so far. This week has been my biggest week ever (Ok, so I say that most weeks). I swam 5850m (2h 16m), biked 212km (8h 35m) and ran 42.7km (4h 15m) in the last 7 days. Amazing! My stamina has been pretty good but I'm definitely in need of a recovery week and my coach has one planned for this week.

I had two 2 hour trainer rides and a 4.5 hour ride outside. 2 long swims and 3 runs, which haven't been all that long, but the bike is definitely the killer.

Update on Fibroid news and Ironman Training

I had my 2nd gynecologist appointment yesterday. I had made the decision to get a hysterectomy so I had my list of questions and the doctor went through them with me. I will be having an abdominal hysterectomy. It will be a total hysterectomy (removal of uterus and cervix) as well as removing my fallopian tubes. At this point I get to keep my ovaries.

My First Gynecologist Appointment

I finally had my first gynecologist appointment for my fibroids. I had all sorts of questions for her like what are my options? Wait time for surgery? Medication to delay/stop fibroid growth? But she had questions for me first. She wanted to know my medical history of course. Have I had surgery before, allergies, have I been pregnant etc... One of the questions she asked about was my alcohol consumption. I've been down to once a month, which is what I told her, so she asked if that was a new thing and yes it was.

Harry Spring Run Off Race Report 2015

Woke up at 7am and had oatmeal with a banana. Had all my gear lined up the night before and took my time getting ready. Thankfully I did all my bathroom stuff before I left for the race. Perfect! Left early to make sure I got to the race site.

Loving TrainerRoad!

For Valentine's Day my boyfriend gave me a Garmin 920XT. One of the reasons I wanted it so much was to use TrainerRoad as TR wasn't compatible with my Polar RCX5. I've been using the Garmin for a month and I love it. I've used TrainerRoad for about 2 or 3 weeks now and I am really enjoying it. Last weekend I also got myself a Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. So far I like that it doesn't wobble as much as my Cyclops Mag+ and it is a lot less noisy and it has less vibrations. But I'm a lot slower on this trainer then on the Cyclops and I'm not so enamored with that.

Ironman training moves along

Sorry, I've skipped a week or so but I've been pretty busy. Training for the Ironman has gone fairly well the last couple of weeks. The weather was at it's coldest in mid-February but thankfully since then it's warmed up quite a bit. We are now seeing plus 0 temperatures during the day and I for one welcome it!

Feb 23rd - Mar 1st:

UTI and fibroids

IM training has been going pretty well. I've been able to keep my energy at a good level and not feeling as fatigue as I had been. Making sure to eat properly but I've had a few bad days where I eat junk. It's difficult for me to eat so healthy for so many days in a row. I'm used to eating junk food every other day, but I feel the affects a lot faster then I have before so it helps to stay on course.

Over thinking the fibroids

This week of training was slightly difficult for me. Again ups and downs. It started with my usual Monday swim class. My instructor was sick so we had a substitute. She noticed that I was crossing my hands too much so she told me to really separate my arms for a few lengths and then after awhile it would come back into place properly. Tried that and it certainly helped. And Wednesday swim where we did some fast swimming. I found my 50m and 100m swims haven't really gotten faster, my 50m was just under 1min and my 100m was 2:15. Not great, but I'm happy with that. I need to get faster.
