It's Just a Bit of Gas

For the last 2 weeks I've been fighting a cold or a flu, I can't really tell the difference. It started with some body aches, headaches and a sore throat. Then I started to have a runny, stuffed up nose. This part has been carrying on for over a week. I even took Friday & Monday of last weekend off, to just sit around the house and relax. Slept a lot over the weekend and I think that helped greatly, but I still felt bad this week and even went home early from work on Tuesday so that I could rest because I've got a new project coming up and I needed to be 100% for it.

I've also been training during this time. On some days I feel run down, but I never feel bad enough to not workout (I had a few days where I worked out in the morning, which is usually when I would feel the best). Mind you, I would probably freak out if I didn't do a workout, I'd pretty much have to be puking my guts out or on my deathbed for me not to do one.

Last night though I did almost stop my 1 hr & 20 min run. About 20 minutes in I actually felt like I was going to throw up. Ugh, was this part of the flu that is going around, was I finally getting this stomach bug. Yuck. I hate puking, I avoid it as much as possible. I stopped and used the facilities at the Y. Waited a few minutes and noticed that it felt like I had a gas build up in my stomach. This feeling wasn't the flu, this is a gas problem I have had in the past. So I got back on the track and kept on running. Every once & awhile I got nauseated but I kept on going for it and finished my run. It was definitely my slowest run so far this year, but hey, I completed it. Got home and noticed I had incredible chest pain, like really bad chest pain. Not a heart attack though, just gas. And I never think about going to the ER because I know it's just gas. It felt like I needed a really good burp. Then I was thinking... I don't really burp. I'm not sure if it's because I've been against it, but I just don't typically do it. So I did some research. It turns out, it's a "thing".

I was going to try to make myself burp, but after reading these, I was reminded of how I did relieve myself one time and again... I don't like to puke. That's usually what happens, I get a build up of gas that doesn't get released and eventually I get the chest pains and I'll either vomit or lay down and wait it out. I waited it out, but it meant staying up until about 1am. Ugh, that wasn't fun. Still felt a little uncomfortable this morning, with some actual burps (finally my body figured it out). This evening I feel fine, so what ever it was, it has now passed. And I got my Abs/Core workout done too!

The cold/flu thing though? Not too sure, it felt like it was still there today, with some cough & blowing the nose, but I've dropped the Dayquil/Nyquil in the last 48 hours which was probably the only thing that had me functioning for the last week. Tonight I feel much better. I could use some sleep though, so I'm hoping with enough rest I'll be good to go for tomorrow's 1hr & 25 min run.

Still have no idea what caused the burping/gas problem. Since this has been a problem in the past, I'm willing to think it could be many things such as diet, anxiety, hell maybe even this cold/flu I have (I've noticed that I've been eating really fast lately, so perhaps digestion issues). I was once diagnosed with IBS years ago and I noticed in 1 of those links that somebody mentioned that. Hmm... will have to keep an eye on that.
